The Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau’s public relations program is designed to assist writers and media who need quick access to information and travel-related resources. The press releases, facts about the area and images provided online are just the beginning. Quick response is given to specific needs of travel writers, reporters and editors. Images, story ideas, fact checks, interviews and tours are available upon request.
Writers, who have confirmed assignments or are planning media tours to Galena and Jo Daviess County, are invited to contact the Bureau to arrange visits. The Bureau offers a wide range of support services from supplying recommendations and contacts for attractions and activities to coordinating hour-by-hour itineraries of the Galena and Jo Daviess County experience.

20th Annual Cemetery Walk Remembers Lives of Past Galenians
GALENA, Ill. – Eleven local actors and actresses will bring historic Galenians to life for the education and entertainment of audience members on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9. Guided 75-minute tours will start every 20 minutes between the hours of 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. These theatrical walking tours will be held at Greenwood Cemetery (on the west side of Gear Street), and an indoor seated performance will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Grace Episcopal Church (309 Hill St.).

6th annual Galena Oktoberfest to be held September 22nd
GALENA, Ill. – September 22, 2012 is the start of Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, but it’s also a day of similar celebration in Galena, Ill. The 6th annual Galena Oktoberfest will entertain and delight your entire family and is a whole lot easier on the budget than a flight to Munich. The event takes place at Depot Park, 99 Bouthillier St., just east of the Galena River near the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Park Avenue; from noon to 10 p.m. Galena Oktoberfest is hosted by the Galena Lions Club and all of the proceeds help individuals with sight and sound needs, as well as supporting community projects.

‘Liberty’ rings true with local bald eagle
GALENA, Ill. – More than 60 names were crafted, but only one came out on top. Not surprisingly though, two individuals submitted the same, patriotic name of, ‘Liberty.’ The Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) held a contest, in conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week celebrations in May, to name a larger-than-life bald eagle. The eagle, standing at approximately six feet tall, was on display at the Old Train Depot Visitor Information Center for visitors to interact and take pictures with.
