May 18, 2013~18th Annual Galena Triathlon & Duathlon

The Galena Triathlon & Duathlon is hosted by the Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau and co-hosted by Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa.
This early season triathlon will start with a 660-yard swim in the clear, cool waters of Apple Canyon Lake with a beach start and finish. Athletes will be tested by a 17.3-mile bicycle ride from the lake to the Shenandoah Riding Center in the Galena Territory. The bicycle route features plenty of “ups and downs” on the curvaceous country roads of Jo Daviess County. To finish, competitors will run 4.3 miles on the hills and paths of The Galena Territory towards the finish line at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa. Registrants can also opt to enter the duathlon which starts with a two-mile run in lieu of the swim portion. The duathletes then compete on the same bicycle and final run courses as the triathletes.

Get to Galena early on Friday for the pre-race celebration. It will be held at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa’s special event field at 444 Eagle Ridge Dr., Galena and will have live entertainment and professional tips presented by two-time Galena Triathlon overall winner David Fix. A kid’s fun run, activities and a bounce house will keep the little ones entertained.

On race day, spectators can monitor the progress of athletes’ real-time results via text messages, social media updates or on the internet. Once the race finishes, athletes, plus friends, families and spectators are invited to the post-race party at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa’s special event field for a delicious lunch, beer, live music and awards ceremony.
